Wetwesties/GoVW Campout McBee Directions

On March 19-21, 2010 we'll be in Site 1. (not the back site)

Keep in mind there is no cell coverage up there. If you get lost, you are on your own. For you ham radio types, the Mary's Peak Repeater might be a good choice at 146.78-. And, Simplex at 145.52. I'll (Jon) be monitoring those freqs. And, FRS channel 5 will be monitored for you non-ham types. FRS 5 is the "default" GOVW/Wetwesties channel. Sometimes I carry packet radio, as well.

About the only thing we will need for certain is firewood, please bring as much as you can to contribute to the pile & depending on the weather perhaps some tarps too. Camping is free at McBee. There is no power or water. The toilets are pit toilets. ;)

This is what google sez (and it's close...McBee is the clearing above (north) of the A mark. The "A" is actually on a trail from McBee to Alsea Falls.): http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=alsea+falls,+or&sll=44.33071,-123.500426&sspn=0.007874,0.013819&ie=UTF8&ll=44.32876,-123.499997&spn=0.007874,0.013819&t=h&z=16

If you are coming from I-5, take the Hwy 34 exit 228 west bound. Go 10 or so miles. When just east of Corvallis, take the Hwy-34 bypass on your left (second stoplight before you cross the bridges to Corvallis). Once on the bypass bridge, take the first "exit" to Hwy 99W. Go 13 or so miles to Alpine Rd. Turn right. Follow Alpine road which turns into South Fork Rd. (keep right). S. Fork road will turn into Fall Creek Access rd. Watch for the signs below about a mile after Alsea Falls campground. It is on your right, and is marked "private", so don't let that fool you. We usually put out an orange "traffic cone" at the turnoff.

These are generic instructions. So, make sure you know what campsite we are in from your email. We generally camp in Site 1 (the one with the big shelter, pictured below). You'll find that by just going straight after turning in. You'll cross two little bridges, and then see a LARGE shelter. Probably 1/8 mile from the road. That's it.

Sometimes we camp in the "back" campsite. After pulling into the campground, you'll cross a bridge (pic below). Take the first right, go about 300 yards up a hill, and then take a hard right down the hill. You can't miss the campsite. This one does not have a shelter.

This sign tells you that you are getting close.

This sign is 1 mile from the above sign. This is where you turn right.

Once you turn right, you'll cross this concrete bridge.

Then, look for this small sign and road. Turn right here.

If you see this sign, you missed the right turn, above.

This is site 1.
